In today’s digital world, our smartphones store almost everything like passwords, photos, banking apps, emails, OTPs and personal conversations.
Because of this, smartphones have become a major target for hackers and cybercriminals.
But, I have no technical knowledge, How can I know whether my phone or data has been compromised?
No Worries, MAIN HOON NAA 🙂
Today’s blog is all about this topic only..
1. Check If Your Data was Leaked in a Data Breach
First and foremost thing is simple google dorking.
Just open the browser and type your data.
Example : “name”, “+91 987654321”, “abc@email.com”
Next, there are some free sites to check
Example : Have I Been Pwned, Have I Been Sold etc.
But, I recommend you to not to go for paid ones.
2. Run a Google Security Checkup
Go to https://myaccount.google.com/security-checkup
Review : Recent logins, Connected devices, Third-party apps with access
If you see a login from an unknown locations or devices, remove it immediately.
3. Check Active Sessions on Social Media
Hackers often hijack accounts instead of directly hacking devices
So, check login sessions in apps like:
- Facebook
- Instagram
- WhatsApp
- LinkedIn
- Snapchat etc
If anything looks suspicious, log out from all sessions and change password.
4. Check for Suspicious Apps
Go to Settings -> Apps -> Installed Apps
Look for apps which :
- You don’t remember installing
- Have no icon
- Have strange names
If you find something suspicious, uninstall it immediately.
5. Check App Permissions
Go to Settings -> Privacy -> Permission Manager
Review which apps have access to :
- Camera
- Microphone
- SMS
- Contacts
- Accessibility Services
6. Monitor Data Usage
This is most critical one to watch.
Go to Settings -> Network -> Data Usage
Look for apps consuming large amounts of background data.
7. Scan Your Device for Malware
Install a trusted security scanner such as:
- Malwarebytes Mobile Security
- Bitdefender Mobile Security
- Kaspersky Mobile Security
Run a full scan to detect spyware, trojans or malicious apps.
Now, Lets look for some warning signs that your phone may be hacked.
Warning Signs!!
- Battery draining unusually fast.
- Phone overheating while idle
- Random pop-ups appearing
- Unknown apps installed
- Camera or microphone activating unexpectedly
- High mobile data usage
- Messages being sent without your knowledge
